Natural First Aid Treatments with Homeopathy

Many people nowadays have become increasingly concerned about the toxic effects and side-effects of many allopathic medications. This is resulting in an uneasy and questioning acceptance of ‘the downside’ of treating one symptom and gaining others. It’s clear that some synthetic drugs have been of considerable use. However, the overuse of prescription medications such as antibiotics is prevalent.

Another example is fast relief obtained for the treatment of hayfever, insect stings & conjunctivitis by antihistamine drugs. These drugs are sometimes also prescribed for insomnia. Or steroid creams for itching or inflammed skin. These common prescription drugs and creams however can set up an intolerance in allergy activation, and they may have long-term side effects. This intolerance can contribute to auto-immune breakdown (where the body goes into overdrive in its inflammatory responses). Many people instead choose the natural-based substances in the safe and gentle treatment of homeopathy.

Fast-Paced Modern Life

Modern lifestyles are lived at much greater speed than previously. More demands are coming via technology even as more advances in science are made. People have become less focused on looking after their whole health. Now there are so many varying components in demands from a fast-paced lifestyle: healthy diet, travel, exercise, family, relationships, environment, money, work.

There such a wide array of allopathic prescription medications, and for many this is seen as a normal part of life. Few people have time, money, training or motivation to think beyond acceptance of several synthetic medications for separate illnesses.

Homeopathy for Minor Health Treatments

To use Homeopathy for minor health problems is to gain an understanding that such First Aid use can be really effective, frequently speedy and provides a safe and inexpensive method of treating yourself at home. More and more people are using homeopathy at home and there are many Homeopathy First Aid books and short courses available to guide you.

When appropriate you can treat yourself and the family. See: Homeopathy Blog. Several doses of a homeopathic remedy may be needed before improvement. It’s common to give 3 or 4 doses per day, or more frequently in very acute conditions. It is important to stop taking the remedy as soon as there is improvement.

Many of the Homeopathic Pharmacies sell starter kits for the home and for travel, as well as a large repertoire of individual remedies. See:

Common Conditions we Can Treat With Homeopathic First Aid

Roger Daltry’s experience of an emergency treatment for his son using homeopathy when mainstream medication had not helped at all, is here: https://www.prlog.org/10070248-roger-daltrey-homeopathy-saved-my-son.html

Here are a few examples from my own personal experience:

Mosquito bites in Greece

It’s happened before while being abroad, this time I was in Greece and I developed really painful and intensely blistered mosquito bites. Once bitten the bites on my arms and legs quickly became very red in hot, burning, raised swollen discs. And they became huge, the size of a 20 pence piece, or larger. They’d ‘progress’ to growing a capped head which grew into a large balloon of a sticky liquid-filled blister. Some of them burst by themselves leaving a large pink sore area and I was concerned too that I would be left with scars.

My homeopath friends suggested several different and relevant remedies, including Graphites because of the sticky liquid aspect. Although one remedy did reduce the problem, it was another remedy that took away the heat, reduced the swelling and blistering – and that was Belladonna (a poisonous plant made perfectly safe through homeopathy processes). Homeopathic Treatments. Just a few pillules of Belladonna 30c took out all the burning heat and blistering, my bites subsided and left no scars.

Camping With An Infection

I was a bit of a fool to go camping so late in the year, but I needed to get away from it all. To be on my own for a week to be somewhere new, to think, and be near the sea, in Cornwall. The week I chose in late September unfortunately was really rubbish. I think there was only one day when it wasn’t raining. So, one day I went for a long walk in the rain, and greatly tired I struggled to have enough energy to get back to my tent. My tent was not much of a respite, it was cold, the air felt damp including my pillow, I couldn’t get warm and I felt too close to the ground. And because I wasn’t feeling well, was depressed, I was slow to realise things were fast going downhill.

Symptoms

I was beginning to develop a severe ear-ache, heat and pain and throbbing in my Right ear. My throat felt as if it was burning, painfully sore. Before too long I was shivering, coughing and sneezing with yellow phlegm. And I was barely urinating, or if I did, the colour was pale brown (often a sign of infection). By the time I thought to treat myself I felt too poorly to drive myself home. Having just a few remedies with me my first thought was to try Belladonna, which helped a bit. Belladonna symptoms come on suddenly, are usually right-sided and relate to the mucous membranes.

Then I realised Hepar Sulphur (a mineral) would be a good match as one of its ‘keynotes’ which personalises it strongly, is having the sensation of ‘splinters’ down the throat. It’s also a remedy for infections, especially of the ear and in the throat. By this time my body felt icy cold. I took one Hepar Sulph 30c pillule every 15 minutes or so for about an hour and a half, my urine improved and this helped enough to enable me to pack up and drive home.

Once home I had a wider choice of remedies to hand, my bladder seemed back to normal and my throat much less painful but my ear was still raging. So that night I took Hepar Sulph in a higher potency, felt much improved, and fell asleep. The following day I took one more and again felt better but my symptoms had not all gone. Then, since I had been lying down, virtually outside, on cold and damp ground I recognised this scenario. It relates to Dulcamara (a plant, ‘Bitter Sweet’). Dulcamara’s profile includes the significant symptom of having pains induced by cold and damp and from sitting on cold, damp ground. One 30c pillule was enough to successfully complete the remedy ‘trail’.

A very Angry Bee

Out for a walk with my sister, I sat on a stile in the sunshine for a moment to rest. Suddenly, out of nowhere a bee flew straight towards my forehead. Normally I am not particularly fazed by bees or by other insects. But this one had intent – to land on my face, inside my ears or on my hair, wherever it could. It stung my forehead between my eyes, then, fortunately, flew off. My sister took out the sting for me and the site quickly became painful and swollen.

Having some Bach Rescue Remedy Bach Flower Remedies  (I always carry it!) in my bag I dabbed some on, and it eased the soreness a little. Wondering why the bee was so intentional, I had a look around. And there were bee hives in the next-door field. In fact, we had met the beekeeper earlier, who told us his bees were “angry” bees. “How odd” I had thought, why would a beekeeper have angry bees? (Later I hear there is a variety of bees called "angry").Then, too, I realised I was wearing some natural sun-cream on my face. One of the ingredients was honeysuckle. It was angry in not achieving its intended pollen target, like this beautiful Buddleia.

The honey bee provides Apis homeopathic remedy

At home my sting was raised, solidly swollen, red, angry-looking (!) and pretty sore. I tried in pillule form the remedies Apis (the homeopathic version of a bee sting) and Ledum (wild Rosemary plant) each in a relatively low potency of 30c – with virtually no effect. Ledum is indicated for stings, especially if cold applications help. I found it hard to tell whether cold did help, but it didn’t seem to do much. Next I tried Hypericum (a plant with anti-inflammatory properties and very useful for puncture wounds, such as a sting). It had the same result, no effect. Perhaps it would have been better to have used it in a tincture form and dabbed it on directly – Hypericum works very well topically.

However, I went back to Apis, giving myself one pillule in a higher potency, and this did the trick. My sting site was still sore, but the heat, redness and swelling went down very fast. For me, as an individual at that time who needed a higher potency to match the intensity of the sting, that worked. Other insect bites in other situations may call for a different remedy. However, for wasp and bee stings – particularly when they are hot, red and swollen – Apis is a good first bet.
